Located in Halifax, on Atlantic Canada’s scenic coastline, Ekistics Planning & Design (www.ekistics.net) is one of the nation’s pacesetters in landscape architecture, urban design, planning, and engineering. We are known for our engaging and energetic studio environment and our diverse portfolio of works. Our passion and obsession for landscape takes us around the globe designing cities, waterfronts, downtowns, parks, resorts and golf courses. Our sister firm Form:Media (www.form-media.ca) is a leader in environmental graphic design, interpretive planning and interior design. Together, we are innovators, rule breakers and pioneers; applying the latest technological advances to design, planning and place-making.
No starched collars or bow-ties here! If you are passionate about your profession, if you love learning, if you would rather lead than follow, and.... if you impatiently await the next release of Adobe CS7 or Sketchup 2014, and you won’t shy away from a good game of Asteroids (on our vintage 1980‘s arcade machine) on a Friday afternoon, you should be talking to us!
The intermediate landscape architecture position will cover the full spectrum of the profession; including conceptual design, report writing, 3D design, project visualization, public participation and working drawings/specifications. Applicants must have a bachelors or masters degree in landscape architecture with six or more years of professional experience. If you are a ninja master in the profession with less experience but a portfolio to be worshiped, we might throw you in the running. The applicant should have an extremely high proficiency in both site-based design (conceptual, 3D modelling and working drawings) and preparing urban design reports and studies. If you can demonstrate superhuman feats of design, writing and software operation, this is the position for you.
Our firm operates on both MAC and PC platforms. A high level of competence with design production software is part of your repertoire, including Civil 3D/AutoCAD, SketchUp, and graphic programs such as Adobe Creative Cloud. Applicants must have proven ability with 3D design development and preparation of construction drawings, details and specifications.
Applicants must demonstrate the ability to be proactive and self-motivated as part of multi-disciplinary creative teams. They must be comfortable with public consultation and they must have proven experience with project management and/or coordination on jobs that involve client meetings, group presentations, and the resolution of typical issues/challenges that involve high quality design products. The ability to lead and direct junior design staff would be a strong advantage, as would the ability to generate new projects and guide internal initiatives. Most importantly, you must do what you love, love what you do, be dedicated to excellence, and have a good sense of humour; after all, its only an impossible deadline right?
The position is full-time. A comprehensive health care package and professional development incentives are offered. Salary is commensurate with an ‘intermediate’ skill-set.
